Swan Hills, Water Treatment Plant Upgrade

Focus completed pilot work, pre-design and detailed design of a 5.1 MLD membrane filtration upgrade for the Town of Swan Hills’ Water Treatment Plant. This project upgraded the existing water treatment plant, which became operational in 2009, to meet new turbidity and particle count standards.

During the pilot stage, we analyzed disinfection byproduct formation to ensure that the new treatment process would satisfy future guidelines for these contaminants. We consulted Alberta Environment’s municipal approvals department throughout the entire process in development of the Town’s updated operating approval. Focus worked with the town and Alberta Infrastructure to ensure that the funding process was appropriately followed.

The final design includes three Pall MF membrane trains and a process that is configured to use pH adjustment as well as chloramination to facilitate operator-control of the treatment process.
