Major Arterial Road Design & Construction

Focus was engaged by the City of Edmonton’s Capital Construction Department to provide design and construction services for its Anthony Henday Drive Connectors Program.

This project required that a two lane rural road 34 Street between 23 Avenue and TUC be replaced by the first two lanes of the ultimate four lanes urban roadway.  A 3.0m wide multi-use trail was also constructed alongside the new roadway.

Focus developed preliminary design options to present the optimal design and staging, while coordinating with the adjacent land development. The challenge of preliminary design was to define the intersection staging at 23 Avenue while taking into consideration the City’s future upgrade on 23 Avenue and also coordinating the storm water and road design with the adjacent development.

As the prime consultant, Focus provided detailed design for road, drainage, and landscaping.  Other services provided include project management, preliminary survey, public consultation, environmental screening report, geotechnical investigation, historical resources assessment, utility coordination, contract tendering, and record drawings.
