Calgary West LRT Extension
Focus was a key member of the consultant team retained as Owner’s Engineer for Calgary Transit’s West Light Rail Transit line, which stretches from downtown Calgary to the residential communities in the west. This 8km extension includes six stations, two park and ride facilities and one new road interchange. Throughout the planning and design and construction phases, Focus was responsible for everything that related to roadways, storm‐water management and utilities, including the coordination of sub‐consultants.
The planning and design phase of this design‐build project included functional planning and preliminary engineering design of roadways and utilities as well as preparation of tender documentation. Focus staff also conducted technical reviews of the tender submissions.
As a key member of the Owner’s Engineer team for the construction phase of the project, Focus reviewed design submissions from the design-build contractor at 50%, 90% and IFC stages. Focus also provided technical expertise in areas such as traffic management, road design, utility relocation etc. In addition, Focus provided construction monitors as part of the Owner’s Engineer Construction Quality Management team.
