Spectra Energy, an award winning and well respected company within the Canadian oil and gas industry, is one of Focus’ top clients. Focus has performed numerous pipeline and processing plant projects in Northeastern BC for them since 2007. Over 230 km of large diameter pipeline projects have been completed in the past few years, with approximately 250 km currently on the go or in planning phases.
Focus provides legal land surveying services, including field survey and plan preparations, for the acquisition of the pipeline asset and supporting facilities required for Spectra’s upstream operations. Focus is involved in the projects from the initial route selection, through to the final as-built legal survey, as required by BC regulations.
We use remote sensing and aerial photography data to determine the initial routes – this desktop reconnaissance uses innovative data approaches to eliminate preliminary field scouting. Once initial routes are selected, Focus provides detailed field scouting and surveying, profiles and crossing surveys, construction and as-built surveys and the final legal survey.
In addition to Focus’ knowledge of conventional survey tools, our expertise in remote sensing and laser scanning gives Spectra an innovative way to review their assets. Remote sensing data can be used for interactive, panoramic ’fly through’ route selection or post project views. Laser scanning collects spatially accurate and detailed models of facilities, which create a meaningful as-built record for maintenance and future use. A number of emerging technologies can help clients like Spectra pick the best route and inventory their assets in a meaningful way that reduces the overall project footprint.
