Empress High Ethane Recovery Project

Encana awarded the Empress High Ethane Recovery Project to DPH Focus based on our experience in liquid extraction/deep cut facilities and in plant retro fit work.

The project involved the major retro fit/expansion of an existing straddle plant from 1 bcfd incidental ethane recovery to 1.2 bcfd high ethane recovery. Major modifications included re-wheeling the existing 30,000 HP recompressor and the existing 9,000 HP turbo expander. Existing columns were re-trayed and pumps, vessels and exchangers were retrofitted. New equipment included a 30,000 HP electric drive booster compressor, 35 MMbtu/hr. heat medium heater, pumps and dust filter. The project involved integration and expansion of existing utilities and involved over 200 tie-ins. The existing DCS was completely replaced with a new Delta V system and the PLC was expanded to cover the new requirements.

This very complex retro fit project, which had to be executed with minimal disruption to the operating facility, was completed on schedule and under budget.
