Classic
September 26, 2006
VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA-Focus and co-sponsor Corix Water Products (Corix)
raised more than $250,000 at their annual Golf for Kids Charity Golf Classic.
Focus and Corix in partnership with the "Golf for Kids" team including 70
volunteers, 50 Hole Sponsors, 75 Major Sponsors and 198 players raised $250,000
for three local charities: The "Help Fill a Dream Foundation," an organization
dedicated to helping children with life threatening illnesses fulfill their
lifelong dreams, "KidSport BC", whose mandate is to identify needs in the
community, raise funds, and support programs that create opportunities for
young people to participate in sport and "Rock Solid", a support service that
provides counselling and education for youth affected by violence and bullying.
"The atmosphere and the amount of money that we were able to raise for children
in our community was absolutely unbelievable," explains Dale Douglas,
tournament co-organizer and Focus Regional Vice-President. "The generosity of
our sponsors and the people who paid for auction items exceeded everyone's
expectations and made for a very memorable day."
The 2006 "Golf For Kids" Charity Golf Classic was held on September 16th at the
world renowned Bear Mountain Golf Resort in Victoria. The $250,000 was raised
through a combination of entry fees, mulligan and raffle draws, as well as
through participants bidding on items in an exciting silent and a fun-filled
live auction. Bob Campbell from "Help Fill a Dream Foundation", Patti Hunter
from "KidSport BC" and Tom Woods from "Rock Solid" were thrilled to accept
cheques on behalf of their respective organizations.
Over the past 10 years, the "Golf for Kids" Charity Golf Classic has raised more
than $850,000 which has been used to help make dreams come true for hundreds of
children on Vancouver Island.
