Focus Recognized as one of Alberta's Best Safety
Performers

EDMONTON, ALBERTA-Focus has been selected for the Work Safe Alberta 2005 Best
Safety Performer Awards.
This prestigious achievement was awarded to Focus for exceptional performance in
workplace health and safety throughout the province of Alberta during 2005. Of
Alberta's 128,000 employers, only 350 earn the Work Safe Alberta 2005 Award. To
be eligible for the award, companies must meet the following criteria:
- Current Alberta WCB account.
- Current Certificate of Recognition.
- A lost time claim rate (LTC) less than 2.0 LTCs per 100 person years, a LTC
rate 40% better than your industry's LTC rate, no LTCs in the most recent 120
consecutive person years of employment and no more than one additional LTC per
each additional 120 person years.
- No workplace related fatalities in the previous three years.
- No outstanding compliance orders under the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act and no current prosecution for a violation.
"This award is a direct result of the commitment all of our employees have
towards workplace safety, particularly our 150 field crews who work in the
Alberta oil and gas industry," explains Dave Grywul, Focus Corporate Safety
Facilitator. "To be recognized as a Work Safe Alberta winner in 2005 and 2004
confirms the safety culture that our staff have built over the past several
years."
HCS Focus, a wholly owned Focus subsidiary, was also selected for the Work Safe
Alberta 2005 Best Safety Performer Awards. Based in Fort McMurray, Alberta, HCS
Focus provides industrial survey services to the booming oil sands industry.
HCS Focus was also awarded the Work Safe Alberta Best Safety Performer Award in
2004.
As a result of this achievement, Focus and HCS Focus will be recognized as a
2005 Best Safety Performer in a Alberta Government provincial news release, in
the Occupational Health and Safety Magazine and on the department's Workplace
Heath and Safety website www.worksafely.org and in Work Safe Alberta ads in select newspapers.
