What started as a rough and tumble mining town in 1897 is now the picture of small-town sophistication and laid-back western friendliness and athleticism.

Nestled in the crater of an ancient volcano at an elevation of 1023 metres, Rossland is known as Canada’s Alpine City. Red Mountain, the ski area located 3.5 kms from town, was the site of Canada’s first national skiing championship, the site of Western Canada’s first chairlift, and home of Canada’s most successful ski club.

Also known as the Mountain Bike Capital of Canada, Rossland features a fantastic  skills park  in Rossglen Park and hundreds of kms of mountain biking trails – all of which conveniently radiate from the centre of town.

Rossland hosts a variety of cultural events and festivals year-round, including the Rossland Winter Carnival, Gold Fever Follies Summer Theatre, Golden City Days and the Rossland Mountain Film Festival.

The population of approximately 3400 Rosslanders is diverse, engaged and concerned about sustainability and environmentalism. They have a strong sense of community and are committed to gradual, well-planned growth that exemplifies their small town lifestyle.Rossland
