THE SURMONT PROJECT
Oil Sands Exploration and Development

Scope
Focus has been involved in ConocoPhillips' Surmont Oil Sands Exploration and Development Project since 2001. The scope of the project involves working for both the drilling and engineering departments on this large scale project.

Phase 1 of the Surmont Project includes a network of exploratory core holes. Focus is responsible for compiling an Oil Sands Exploration map, scouting, staking and surveying core holes, and plan preparation for network core holes located over six townships on an annual basis.

The client constructs and drills a specific number of core holes every year to assist in their short and long term planning for a Steam-Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) Oilsands Project.

Phase 2 of the Surmont Project includes land surveying, mapping and plan preparation for the Commercial Development of a phased SAGD production, including pad sites, access, a network of pipelines and a plant site.

Most of the Commercial Development has been constructed and new facilities are planned for the future. Focus' involvement has been to provide plans to assist in the design of the production facilities as well as to provide engineering and legal survey services.

Focus actively cooperates with the client's contractors and other service providers to provide products that meet their dynamic needs.
