ENCANA -VIRTUAL SURVEYS PILOT

Scope
Working with Encana Corporation, Focus designed, developed and implemented a new process to license wellsites in northeastern British Columbia without an on-the-ground field survey. This removes surveying as an impediment in the development process for the client and allows Focus to target field crews in a “just-in-time” concept prior to actual drilling. This is expected to save time and reduce risk associated with tasking and completing surveys within a short time frame.

Focus leveraged the use of remote sensing technologies, including Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) and high resolution satellite imagery, in order to capture an accurate and reliable depiction of the surface of the earth. This allows Focus to generate “virtual” sketch plans that are indistinguishable from a conventional survey. It is anticipated that this new process will be used in production in NEBC in Q1 of 2006. This project has demonstrated the value in taking new innovative ideas to Encana to improve their competitive position.
