GROAT ROAD STORM SEWER
REHABILITATION
Community Infrastructure
Scope
Focus was commissioned to help the City of Edmonton’s Drainage Services Department rehabilitate a 50 year old large diameter storm sewer under Groat Ravine.
The existing 2489 mm diameter sewer was originally tunneled and lined with corrugated metal pipe, which had since deteriorated. A new pipe was necessary to ensure continued safe effective service.
Focus, which specializes in trenchless infrastructure upgrading, analyzed numerous possible methods of relining the active sewer and evaluating the best possible alternative. Factors such as cost, constraints, environmental implications, social/public impacts, and functionality were all assessed and considered. The final design was a new concrete liner, which was cast-in-place utilizing the City’s own manpower and tunneling expertise.
