In-SHUCK-ch Nation
First Nations

In-SHUCK-ch Nation, which is comprised of the Douglas, Skatin and Samahquam First Nation communities, retained Focus Corporation for two critical projects that are integral to their cultural, social, physical and economic well-being.

In-SHUCK-ch Nation lacks some basic infrastructure, including access to the power grid, access to the cellular telecommunications network, and safe roadways. These problems create a stark difference in the quality of life enjoyed by members of the Douglas, Skatin and Samahquam communities in comparison to that enjoyed by members of neighboring First Nations communities. In-SHUCK-ch Nation hired Focus Corporation to help them improve their standard of living.

The first project involved an investigation of the Nation’s infrastructure, housing and community needs, with the goal of bringing the three communities to the same standard enjoyed by their nearest First Nation neighbours. The project also required an analysis of expected post-treaty settlement in-migration and population growth over the next 20 years. The preliminary assessment revealed that current and projected needs necessitated the investment of a staggering $100 million dollars over a 20 year period.

The second project is an analysis of the potential for developing an existing hot springs location, which is the crux of an economic development program. Focus has worked and will continue to work closely with the community to develop a plan that is both sensitive to cultural, historical and environmental needs and supportive of a financially feasible economic development initiative. Focus Corporation is privileged to have been selected to work with In-SHUCK-ch Nation on both of these critical projects.
